Family Fun Traditions: Jackson Hole

What is it about family traditions that brings one back to their childhood? One of my favorite summer traditions is going to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I'm sure to some of you this may not sound like a typical fun family trip that you would be excited for every single year, but I look forward to it all year. Starting when I was a little girl, my family has made it a tradition to go to Jackson Hole every Labor Day weekend. Going to Jackson hole to this day brings back wonderful childhood memories.

When I was younger, my parents would pack up the car with coolers full of food and bags full of snacks. We would get in the car early in the morning and start our drive. About half way to Jackson, we would stop at this gas station and eat a packed lunch that my mom had made for us. We would sit on the grass as a family and just talk about how exited we were to get to Jackson.

Every year I look forward to stopping and talking about memories from the past. We stay in these cabins at a place called Colter Bay. They are between one and two bedrooms with four beds and one bathroom. There are no TVs to distract us from the real world, so we spend our time playing games and doing activities outside.

One of our favorite activities to do while there is to go to the bar J Wranglers. The night takes place in a barn full of people from every state. There are about 60 tables set up and a big stage in front of everyone. At the beginning of the night, they serve you a 'Cowboy Dinner" with beef and corn bread and some apple sauce. It may not sound very appetizing, but trust me, it's so good! After dinner these five cowboy brothers perform songs and entertain you with funny skits. Although I have gone to J Wranglers almost every year since we started going to Jackson Hole, I still look forward to going and wouldn't want to miss it. To me, Its what makes Jackson Hole, Jackson Hole.

No Jackson Hole trip would be the same if it did not end with a river rafting ride down the snake river on our way home. This has always been one of my favorite things to do. Going down the river is such a wonderful way to end a fun family vacation with laughs and smiles as we go down the " Big Kahuna".

What are some of your favorite summer traditions that are unique to your family?
