OfficeMax and Mom Bloggers Partner to Erase Teacher-Funded Classrooms

my worldgiving organizations

What do you get when you combine a giving organization like OfficeMax with a group of charitable bloggers? A positive difference for education and a big step toward erasing teacher-funded classrooms.

In September 2009, OfficeMax partnered with Mom It Forward and 32 women in different locations across the US to raise awareness about its A Day Made Better program in partnership with Adopt-a-Classroom. Each blogger hosted an event in her area with unique themes from play dates and cocktail parties to book clubs and the one we hosted in Salt Lake City—a Girls’ Game Night Out. The cost of entrance? A donation of school supplies to benefit one teacher in the local area.

The parties were put on in conjunction with OfficeMax’s overarching A Day Made Better campaign where it provided $1,000 in school supplies to 1,000 teachers across the US.

Even though our event took place in October, it took 5 months to get the donations in the hands of the recipient—Krystal, a blogger and 2nd-grade teacher extraordinaire. I wish I could be in her classroom when she shows the amazing goodies to her students. If their excitement at all matches her enthusiasm (see pic above and video below), it’ll be a memorable day for all!

Thanks to OfficeMax for providing the opportunity to partner in this amazing outreach for education. Thanks to Kristina and Stephanie for hosting yesterday’s blogger luncheon. To learn more about how you can help in your area, visit http://adaymadebetter.com.

As an Alternative school teacher, I would love to know how to get this for our school. We work on a VERY limited buget and have to beg for just about everything we get! How do we get someone like Office Max to notice us! Our kids are the fogotten ones. The students that no one else wants to educate. These are also the students that come from tough home lives and very little money. To give you some examples, 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch, 80% of our students read below a 6th grade level (this is middle/high school), and 85% are below 6th grade level in math. We struggle to keep notebooks, notebook paper, pens and pencils for our students. Please tell me how we get companies to notice and help out our kids!

  6. I love this! I was there when our second grade teacher revealed the box to her class. It was SO precious! This is an awesome campaign. If they do it again next year, sign-me up!

What a great idea. I don’t know if it is still going on, but it is excellent cause marketing for OfficeMax AND making a really positive difference. Our teachers are not supported as they should be so it is always wonderful to hear about initiatives such as this.

    Thank you!

I nominate Mr. Michael Morales, a Kindergarten teacher at Dahlia Heights Elementary in Eagle Rock, Ca. He is very dedicated and has a great passion for teaching. My daughter was in his class last year and she still talks about how great a teacher he was and how she wants to go back to Kindergarten so she can have him as her teacher again! That to me, says a lot. He treats the children as if they were his own and teaches them not just the basic textbook requirements but everything else in between as well. He really cares about his kids and wants to make a change in their lives for the better. Thank you for your consideration:)
