“Pledge® To Love Your Kitchen” $15,000 Contest Winner Announced

Thanks to the amazing folks at Pledge®, Mom It Forward hosted a “Pledge® To Love Your Kitchen” $15,000 Contest that began on November 15 and ran through December 10. Entrants were required to submit at least one photo of their kitchen as well as a description of why their kitchen was in desperate need of some love. Throughout that time, hundreds of people entered countless photos and creative entries as a plea for help. (See all entries here.) Dilapidated countertops, tired and old appliances, mismatched cabinetry, chipped flooring…these were just some of the features that were highlighted in the photos that were submitted.

Even though a picture is worth a thousand words, entrants were only allowed 500 characters to describe why their kitchen was in need of a makeover. The creativity in the written entries was amazing; which really made choosing a winner rather difficult. After reading the entries and looking at all of the photos, we’re excited to announce that the winner of the “Pledge® To Love Your Kitchen” $15,000 Contest is Kimberly of Hampden, Massachusetts. With pops of blue all over her kitchen, she was definitely singing the blues when she wrote her entry entitled, “Beauty in the Least”…

Room as old as mine,
Blue as it can be.
Barely ever trends,
then somebody spends,
unexpectedly.

Needs a stainless range,
the current one’s deceased.
Floor’s a bit impaired,
for too long it’s been shared.
Beauty in the least!

Hard to be reclaimed,
even though it tries,
now it’s an eyesore,
nothing like couture.

What is your holiday wish for your family?

My entire extended family will be together for the first time ever (both my and Troy’s families). My greatest wish is for us to all spend uninterrupted time together and for my kids to get to know my cousin’s children.

What is your Christmas tradition?

Our favorite Christmas tradition is making peanut butter reindeer cookies together and taking them around to all of our friends and neighbors as holiday gifts.

If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?

I’d always take a hot stone massage or a year’s worth of house cleaning. But, I’d really love an all expenses paid trip for my family to New York City at Christmas time (with all the bells and whistles!).

How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?

Finding small and simple ways to spread and recognize holiday cheer every single day during the season!

What games did you play with your family growing up?

Tons of board games: Sorry, Candy Land, Monopoly, and Trouble.

What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood?

We read Luke 2 from the Bible every Christmas Eve as a family.

Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?

This year, we are heading to Arizona, but another year I’d like to take my family to New York City.
