Creative Family Photos for Christmas Cards
It is time! It is time to email your favorite photographer and get busy! I know it seems a little early, but by the time you pick out the perfect outfits, have the photo shoot, patiently wait to receive your pictures, upload your pictures to your favorite card design spot, and patiently wait to receive your cards, you may be well into November or early December.
I have a secret for you. Did you know that photographers love it when you tell us that you want to be creative?
A lot of times, we are asked to do the same poses again and again. That is absolutely fine! I know people have an idea of what they want on the wall in their family room. But for Christmas cards, when a family tells me that they want to be creative, I get giddy!
Include Your Family Traditions - I have a sweet family who hides their elf in the picture every year. That is so fun! It is a challenge to do it and get the shot so that their boys are surprised when they see the pictures!
Location, Location, Location - Be sure and show off where you live! You are sending those cards all over the place and people love to see a little bit about your neck of the woods!
We live close to Phoenix, Arizona - the land of cacti and beautiful foothills. It is so fun to embrace that local beauty and give people a little taste of your town!
Visit Out of the Way Places - Ask your photographer if they know of any fun spots, even if it is a little drive! There are great abandoned buildings around here that are always empty and so fun to explore. It makes it fun for the whole family to have a little day of exploration!
Let Those Personalities Shine! This family comes up with something different every year. Last year, I just followed them around downtown with my camera, while they enjoyed being together! I love this shot of Will's personality. This little boy fights juvenile diabetes fiercely. If you know him, you know that this picture was 100% his idea! Let your little ones try poses and shots that they want to try. They will be more engaged for the entire photo shoot and you'll get some fun shots!
So for those Christmas cards, give yourself permission to have some fun!
Do you already have your cards planned? What creative ideas have you come up with? We'd love to hear! Or show off your family photos on our Facebook page to share the inspiration!
