5 Reasons Why the Nintendo 2DS XL Is Perfect for Summer
School is out for the summer and the excitement level at my house is about to blow off the roof. I love hot summer days as we enjoy hanging by the pool and road tripping with the windows down. With all that being said, transitioning from school to summer is not always easy. For us moms, to ensure we have those precious moments of summertime bliss for ourselves, we need to be armed with tools and resources to help our kids have fun while we stay sane. Thanks to Nintendo and their new Nintendo 2DS XL that they provided me, my son has an exciting, new mobile device to keep him happily engaged while I enjoy a few moments of peace and quiet.
Why the Nintendo 2DS XL is Perfect for Summer Quiet Time
The Nintendo 2DS XL has already proven to be the perfect sanity tool for me and my 10-year-old son. There are a lot of reasons why I love it, but here are some of my favorites.
It’s not a phone, but it’s still cool.
It’s amazing how many of my son’s friends have a phone of their own. At this age, you’re either in the club or out of the club. The Nintendo 2DS XL greys this line because it has so many awesome games and features that my son feels totally cool having it in his back pocket. This allows him to pull out his device and feel like he is in the club, most of the time. My only suggestion? I wish Nintendo offered other cool color options for this age group. How about rose gold trim or a silver cover?
It plays Hulu, YouTube, and Netflix.
Having the ability to watch shows no matter where my son goes is seriously one of the Nintendo 2DS XL’s best new features. The 83 percent bigger screen makes this feature even better. Our first summer trip is around the corner and I no longer have to anticipate him fighting with his big sister over who gets to watch a show on the iPad. He now has his own super mobile device so he can watch what he wants, when he wants. And without the drama. More importantly, I don’t have to manage them.
It has multi-player features so he can play with friends and family.
I just feel, for some reason, a little less guilty when I hear my son interacting and playing games with his friends, versus watching him zone out by himself. This is why I love that the Nintendo 2DS XL offers multiplayer or co-op gameplay. Now I can hear him socializing while he plays his games. My son just proclaimed his favorite game to be Super Smash Bros. He loves this game because he can play with four friends. They can battle each other locally or online choosing an iconic Nintendo character across beautifully designed stages. Street Pass looks pretty cool, too. It allows you to collet Mii characters and interact with them, enjoy enhanced gameplay, and play innovative games in StreetPass Mii Plaza.
It has a $149 price tag, which I think is cool.
I paid almost $1,000 for my daughter’s iPhone along with the additional monthly payments. Ouch! The $149 price tag on the Nintendo 2DS XL is a jump-for-joy price. Games can be purchased at stores like Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy or you can purchase digital copies of games on the Nintendo eshop without leaving the house! Nintendo 3DS games can also be played on the New Nintendo 2DS XL system so if your family already owns a Nintendo 3DS or even a DS, you don’t have to buy new games.
The eshop offers three additional benefits for parents—tons of classic, nostalgia evoking games for under $10, 24/7 shopping, and no lost game cartridges! My husband and I both love Nintendo games (childhood memory overload) and we love connecting with our son doing things he loves. I think it is very likely that there will be another Nintendo 2DS XL added to our family soon. At this price, it just makes sense.
It has new games, old games, and fun features.
The new Nintendo 2DS XL has all the newest and improved games, like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D land. It also gives you a huge library of games, including the ability to play the oldies. This is my favorite. I love feeling like a little kid again.
Taking pictures is another one of the new features my son is using every day. He can also edit the picture right there on the Nintendo 2DS XL. Now that’s rad!
With all the cool, new electronics available today, there comes the task of managing my son’s time screentime. This is made easier with upfront expectations and a screen time tracking program we’ve created. Hmm, we’ll see how it goes. I just might be hanging by the pool or blasting my music with the windows down and not really notice for a few days. Thanks Nintendo for coming through again and giving us all a little sanity this summer.
