Straight Teeth: Getting a Second Opinion From an Orthodontist

Recently my 16 year old daughter's car needed to be registered. We took it in and were informed that the struts needed to be replaced before the emissions test could be done. The mechanic quoted us $1,200 for the repair. But the car is over 10 years old and is only worth $4,000. Like any parent, I immediately wondered if it was time was buy a different car. Why would anyone want to put that much money into such and old car? Then the thought hit me like a ton of bricks. "Get a second opinion."

What has been your experience with getting second opinions? If I doctor told me that I needed to have surgery, wouldn't I get a second opinion? If I needed to fix a major appliance in my home, wouldn't I get a second opinion? Of course I would. This situation was no different. After asking around, my husband and I found another mechanic that works on used cars and he was able to fix the problem for only $294. Thank heavens we got a second a opinion or we would be out a lot of money right now.

My son is currently wearing Invisalign. (I am a member of the invisalign Mom Advisory Board. My son is receiving complimentary treatment from Invisalign) It seems that a lot of orthodontists don't recommend Invisalign because they don't think their patients would be a good candidate for it. I was actually talking to a friend the other day who told me her orthodontist said the same thing to her. I have one thing to say to this, "Get a second opinion!" Not all orthodontists are licensed to treat with Invisalign products. It is worth getting a second opinion from an orthodontist.
