Creativity—Keeping the kids busy and away from the TV or game system can be challenging. Every summer I vow to keep my child busy with creative activities that will surely make him a creative genius. I map out different level art projects ranging from really simple ones using items from around the house to advanced ones requiring a trip to the craft store. Usually the simple ones are the most memorable.

A few I found that we're going to try this summer are below. Since we don't get out of school until late June and we've been traveling the past 3 weeks, our summer is just beginning.

Kid-Friendly Summertime Craft Projects

Natural Painting

I found this over at The Crafty Crow. Using plants and flowers from your yard, you can create some pretty cool master pieces. She created simple book markers, but the possibilities are endless. My son loves this and it's probably because he gets to "smash" the plant item. Both girls and boy will love this and it's not too messy.

Rainbow Art

Meg with Whatever is one of my favorite gals. She always has something good to keep the kiddo's busy. Using paper plates. paint or makers with crepe paper or tissue paper, kids can create a pretty cool hanging art project. This project is something older kids can help the little's with or do on their own. The project is simple, colorful, and screen free.

Fossils - Dinosaur Art

My son will be all over this one: Homemade fossils. We were lucky enough to dig for real fossils a couple of years ago. He was engaged the whole trip! I love it when you can combine science with art. I'm thinking about poking a hole in the top and use them to hang somehow. Heck, I may throw in a science lesson at the same time. He'll never know. You can get more details instruction from That Artist Woman.

For more artsy and creative ideas, I always head to Cindy's site, Skip To My Lou for her Craft Camp. She always has great ideas for all skill levels. Keeping kids busy using their hands with their brain is always a win win for everyone involved. And it keeps them away from the TV.

What creative projects have you done with your children this summer?
