Craft Tutorial: Washi Tape Party Hats

craftsdecor & DIY

This is a fun and quick craft for your party animal. My daughter Kenzie loves to celebrate birthdays with cake and candles on any day so I thought why not have her create party hats? Since I had a stock of washi tape and twine, we were whipping these up in no time.

Easy Washi Tape Party Hats

Materials You Need

  • Washi tape
  • Card stock
  • Pom poms
  • Twine
  • Adhesive paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Punch (if you want)

Directions

First, print out a party hat template onto your card stock and cut it out with scissors. You can also hand-draw it on. Next, choose three or more Washi tape designs to use for your hat. I let Kenzie choose her set of three as well as the three for Mason's hat. Then you just start taping onto the hat while alternating rows of colors until the entire hat is covered.

Then take your adhesive paper in any design and take a punch (we had a Mickey Mouse one from Kenzie's party) and punch out your embellishment. This is an easy way to jazz up your hat for a party theme or just something your child likes. Simply tear the backing off the paper and stick onto the front of your hat.

Roll up the hat into a cone shape and use some more Washi tape to tape along the seam. Next take a hole puncher or just use the scissors to create holes on each side of the hat where you will then loop twine and knot both where the hole is and at the end of the twine.

The icing on top is the pom pom of course. Dab a bit of hot glue onto the pom pom and hold in place at the top of the hat for a few seconds. Tie onto your child's head and it's time to have fun!
