Raise your hand if you have a child who is addicted to Minecraft? I've got both hands raised, so it was no surprise when my son asked for a Minecraft birthday party complete with a Minecraft birthday party cake. He has always been big on themed birthday parties, so I knew I needed to go big or go home to make his 10th birthday extra special for him.

With the help of some very talented friends and after a lot of research, we created the perfect Minecraft birthday party that caused not only my son but all of his friends to say "Wow!" too. Score!

Minecraft Birthday Party Cake

First step to creating the perfect Minecraft birthday party? Get a Minecraft birthday party cake. I decided to order the cake instead of bake it myself, and I'm glad I did. Ashlee from I'm Topsy Turvy is a remarkable cake decorator. I knew she'd produce the most fabulous Minecraft cake creation ever, so I called her first thing. And she didn't disappoint. The cake was one of the highlights of the party.

Choosing the Minecraft Birthday Party Cake Theme

When my 10-year-old son first told me he wanted to have a Minecraft-themed birthday party, I went to our local grocery store and online to see what store-bought cake options were available. After not finding what I was looking for and reserving Ashlee's time to decorate a cake for us, I asked Ashlee for her advice. She researched Minecraft birthday party cake options on Pinterest and sent me image after image to review. Most cakes she came across were of Creepers. They were great, but I wanted something original. So, when she asked me what I thought about a pig eating a watermelon designed to reflect the pixelated look of the game, I immediately knew we had the perfect cake theme for the birthday party. Connor just so happens to love pigs and draws pictures of them all the time. I knew he would fall in love at first site with the cake.

Cutting the Minecraft Birthday Party Cake

Different than store-bought or traditional cakes or cup cakes, cutting into a specialty cake is not the easiest. I found the best place to cut was at the tail end. Let's just say the boys couldn't contain their laughter or jokes when they saw me cutting into the pig's hind quarters.
