Movie Night: Transformers Birthday Party

family funentertainment & parties

September is a big birthday month in our family, and birthday party planning begins as early as June each year. I was coming up empty handed for my son’s 6th birthday this year because I feel like we have tried all of the cool places already. Also, we get invited to our share of birthday parties, and I wanted this party to be different. The idea came to me, but I was nervous. I was considering an outdoor party at our house, but it never fails to rain in September, which almost ruined my daughter’s Circus-themed party last year.

The idea was to have an Outdoor Movie Night in our backyard with a Transformers theme that my son had declared months before. I called up several friends to bounce the idea off of them and decided this was the way to go. {Praying for no rain}.

Book an Event Company

I contacted a company called Fun Flicks and booked them for the event. Included in our event was popcorn and popcorn bags to be distributed throughout the movie. Since it gets dark here around 7:30, the party was a late showing. I decided at the last minute to bring in a few pizzas just because boys always seem to be hungry no matter when they last ate.

Wouldn't you know it, it began to rain the Thursday and Friday before the party. To say that I was freaking out would be an understatement. I’ll be honest, I did not have a backup plan; it was all or nothing! We woke up Saturday morning—the day of the party—and it was gorgeous outside! {Prayers answered!} The ground was drying up, and the party was set to go!

Set Up a Candy Display

Ryan's friends began showing up with sleeping bags and pillows to throw on the grass. My husband built an awesome candy display for picking out any candy they wanted. We stopped the movie at the halfway point to sing happy birthday and hand out cupcakes as the kids rushed back to find out what happened next! I was also a tad nervous premiering the 1986 Transformers Movie since we are so spoiled with Pixar and Disney's latest technology. I heard from the kids who came that, “This was the most rad party ever!” (good to know RAD is still cool) and “It was the most wicked party I've ever been to!” These were compliments of kids older than mine! Success! I wanted to share the details of our party in case you feel like doing something new and different to shake things up a bit. We were getting pretty bored with all the jump houses and kid zones.
