Gifts for Gardeners – Gardening Tool Set
What do you get for the gardener who has it all? I always have a hard time shopping for my Dad. This year, we decided to make him a gift for gardeners - since he's an avid gardener with a huge, productive garden in Central Missouri - and give him a nice place to store a gardening tool set where he needs it most - down at his garden!
Gifts for Gardeners - Gardening Tool Set
What better place to store your most used gardening tools than actually at the garden? I can't tell you how many times I've headed out to my garden to do something, and had to turn around and head back to grab a knife or a pair or scissors, or something else I should have remembered. I think this idea for a mailbox at the garden to store most used gardening tools is a genius idea. I can't wait to give this to my father and also make one for myself!
Supplies to make the mailbox garden storage container
- Mail box
- Paint
- Stencils, if necessary
- Paint pen
- Paint brushes
- Clear protective spray paint
Gardening Tool Set Ideas
- Gloves
- Scissors - great to keep in a protective sleeve
- Twine - always necessary in the garden
- Knife in a protective sleeve - so you don't cut yourself pulling it out
- Small garden trowel
- Tiny seed planter - great for lettuce, carrot, and other small seeds
To make this great gift for gardeners, pick up a mailbox at your local hardware store. I found mailboxes for around $12 which isn't a bad price. My kids call my dad Opa (German for grandpa), so we decided to paint that on the front.
On the sides, we used the same stencil we used for the cute garden rocks we made and just painted three flowers on each side using acrylic paint. I mixed the colors to come up with colors we liked. My dad is die-hard Missouri Tigers fan, so we used a golden color to paint his name. My son thought that since the Tigers' colors are black and gold, and the mailbox is black, gold was a fitting color.
I picked up a few gardening tools from the hardware store and ordered a few from Amazon as well. All told, I think the mailbox storage container plus gardening tools cost around $30. Not too bad for a cute, practical, homemade gift for gardeners.
What must have gardening tools would you put in your garden mailbox?
