I had gotten into this horrible habit of eating out fast food literally every day for lunch. And not just any fast food, but fried food with a Coke to wash it down. I kept telling myself I’d eat healthier, but my crazy busy schedule made that mindless, although beyond unhealthy, meal decision such an easy choice.
Things changed when I went on my recent month-long adventures, including four back-to-back trips. I found myself out of my routine and in a better position to skip the fast food. As luck would have it, at nearly the same time, I got offered the opportunity to participate in the Einstein Bros. ‘Coffee & A Bagel’ campaign. Einstein’s not only offers healthy lunch choices, but they also treated me to a few meals so I could find out exactly what I liked. Bonus!
After a month of no fast food, when I returned to town, I couldn’t stand the thought of eating fried food and immediately headed for Einstein’s. My favorite so far is the Bros. Bistro House Salad made up of spinach leaves, gorgonzola cheese (did someone say cheese? mmmm!), candied walnuts, and a delicious raspberry vinagrette. It’s chock full of flavor! The other thing is that it’s versatile. If you’re a vegetarian, this is your salad. If you want to add chicken, go right ahead. Lactose intolerant? Hold the cheese! Either way, it’s a better option than fried food any day because it’s both healthy and filling. And, water is the perfect compliment! Score!
The best part, I’m not the only one Einstein Bros. Bagels wants to treat to breakfast, lunch, or snacks! Yes! They want to treat one of you, dear readers!

Just so you know…. Einstein Bros. Bagels aren’t exactly that healthy. They are made with High Fructose Corn Syrup which is directly linked to the increase of both obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in this country. The company refuses to consider switching form HFCS to sugar insisting that they need the HFCS to activate the yeast in the dough. Funny that bakers found sugar sufficient in activating yeast for centuries before corporate greed and corn subsidies led to the invention of HFCS.
If you want a healthy bagel option for lunch, find a real Kosher deli where they make bagels the old-fashioned way with only natural ingredients.

I know it sounds odd, but after being a Wendy’s addict for so many years, a salad from Einstein’s (even though it has candied walnuts) is really a step in the right direction for me. And… I love their freshly squeezed orange juice.
