{$400 AmEx Gift Card Giveaway} Outdoor Winter Activities: Are You an “Innie” or an “Outie”?

giveaways!mehobbies & me time

I grew up in sunny Arizona. Citrus and swimming are my things! I moved to Utah to go to college and ended up staying there when I met and married Mr. @troypattee, who takes advantage of everything Utah's great outdoors has to offer. In the summer, he mountain bikes. In the winter he skis. And he doesn't just ski once in a while, he skis three times a week. You heard me right. Three.Times.a.Week! But, it's his happy place, so who I am to judge or deny him the opportunity?

It wasn't a surprise, then, after our two boys got a little older that Troy was adamant they start ski lessons. We are fortunate to live 45 minutes from Park City Mountain Resort, which has a tremendous Start Now program with small-group classes to teach kids the ins and outs of skiing. With a father so enthusiastic about the sport, the boys took right to it and are begging to get back on the slopes this year.

Here's where I enter the picture. Skiing isn't my thing. All growing up, my parents took me to the Arizona mountains nearly every weekend (3 hours up and 3 hours back) to help me learn to love the rush of skiing. But here's what I discovered... While I love winter—the snow, the icicles, Frosty, and snow-capped mountains—I really don't like outdoor winter activities. I can handle tubing. I don't mind hanging on a horse-driven sleigh. But what I really love is getting all dressed up in my warm winter clothes and enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate with marshamallows in the lodge. And, if a friend joins me, even better. Friendship, hot chocolate, bonding all while looking out the window at the winter wonderland around us. What's not to get giddy about?
