contestscraftsdecor & DIY

Hey friends! It's Jamielyn from I {heart} Nap Time and I'm excited to share this fun craft with you guys featuring Royal Design Studio.

I wanted to brighten up my mantel a bit for Spring/Summer and this piece gave it a fresh new look. I'm loving the light blue and white together.

How to Make Stenciled Home Decor

Here's what you'll need to get started:

Supplies:

  • Wood board
  • Stencil (I used small chiez shiek)
  • Paint
  • Paint roller (I used the Martha Stewart attachment)
  • Vinyl or letter stencils
  • Sand paper

Directions:

The first thing you'll do is paint your board one solid color. Allow the paint to dry for at least one hour and then you can do your stencil. All you do is lay your stencil on top of the wood and hold it in place. Use your other hand to roll the paint on gently. If you're worried about the stencil sliding you could tape it down as well.

sanding

I wanted my edges a little distressed, so I took my sander and roughed up the edges a little bit.

I thought it needed something in the middle so I cut out a piece of vinyl with my CAMEO and laid it on top. You could use stencil letters for this step as well.

Now you have a custom piece of art to display in your home. Isn't the word "delightful" so fun?! 🙂

Have you tried stencils in your home? How did it go?
