Easter is right around the corner and for many of us that means making fun festive desserts. If you don't have a lot of time, consider making cupcakes. They are not only easy to make, but can be fun to decorate.

5 Cupcake Decorating Tips

  1. Use a good frosting recipe - Using the right frosting is key to getting your cupcake to turn out right. I personally like a good butter cream recipe. Here is one I found at Glorious Treats.
  2. Choose the right icing bag - The reason why most people can't get the designs of fancy cake decorators, is they don't have the right tools and they don't know how to hold the bag and squeeze it properly. Invest in a good icing bag and tips and you won't regret it.
  3. Use YouTube to get decorating ideas - I just searched YouTube for a video on how to decorate a cupcake and a ton of videos came up. There are so many fun tutorials on how to frost the perfect cupcake. Find one you like and go for it.
  4. Purchase decoration kits - When I decided to make my cupcakes, I knew I had to use Wilton Bunny Cupcake Decorating Kit. Each kit includes blue and pink jellybeans, green shoestring licorice and bunny ears icing. These few simple items allowed me to make some fun designs. I used the green shoestring licorice to make whiskers and grass. The bunny ears, were the show stopper for me. I loved how they looked on my finished cupcake. Wilton also has fun picks and themed cupcake liners if you want to change the holiday you are celebrating.
  5. Add creative garnishes - If you like a simple cupcake, you can decorate it with just icing and a simple garnish. You can use fresh fruit, decorating sugars, edible glitter, coconut, tiny candies, fruit rolls cut into various shapes and sizes, or large candies like a licorice or peppermint stick. Using your imagination makes your cupcakes fun and original.
