5 Patriotic Pies to Serve on the 4th of July
Patriotic Apple Pie
To make a quick patriotic apple pie, line a pie plate with one refrigerated pie crust, place in freezer for 10 minutes and then add one 20-ounce can of apple pie filling. Roll out another pie crust and cut about 12 stars (with cookie cutters) to cover the top of the pie. Lightly brush an egg wash over the top of each star and around the edges of the pie. Bake at 350 degrees for about a half hour.
Patriotic Pie in a Jar
For a unique twist on traditional berry pies, consider making these patriotic pies in jars. You need four refrigerated pie crusts, 12 4-once mason jars, pie filling of your choice, fresh blueberries, 1/8 cup of sugar, 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp. of corn starch.
Cut each crust into quarters to line the mason jars. Fill six jars with the pie filling. Cut stars from the unused pie crust and place on top of the filling in each jar. At 400 degrees, bake for 10 minutes uncovered and then 30 minutes covered in foil.

Old Glory Cherry-Blueberry Pie
Create a juicy cherry and blueberry pie with a U.S. flag design.
Mix 5 cups of pitted dark cherries (fresh or frozen) with 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cups of blueberries (fresh or frozen) with 1 tbsp. of lemon juice. Mix 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of cornstarch in a third bowl. Add one cup of this mixture to the cherries and a 1/4 cup with the blueberries.
Spoon the cheery mixture into 3/4 of a pie plate lined with a refrigerated pie crust. The blueberry filling will fill in the remained 1/4 quadrant. Scatter 2 tsp. of butter on top. With the unused pie crust, cut several stars and stripes and decorate the top of the pie to look like Old Glory. Remember to put the blueberry mixture in the top left quadrant of the pie and cover with stars. Bake at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes.
No-Bake Pumpkin Cheesecake
One of the most patriotic desserts served at any holiday gathering is pumpkin pie. While typically a Thanksgiving treat, you can transform this ordinary pie into something special for the Fourth of July. A no-bake pumpkin cheesecake recipe from Kraft is easy to assemble and transport to any gathering.
Simply combine an 8 ounce package of softened cream cheese with 1 cup of canned pumpkin, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 tsp. of pumpkin pie spice. Slowly stir in 2 1/2 cups of thawed whipped topping and pour into a ready-made graham cracker crumb crust. Refrigerate overnight and top with more whipped topping before serving.
Truffle Berry Pie
This colorful and tasty pie is the perfect summer treat. Bake a frozen or refrigerated pie crust shell according to directions. In a saucepan over low heat, mix 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 tbsp. of butter. Add an 8 ounce package of cream cheese and mix thoroughly. Remove from stove and stir in 1/4 cup of confectioner’s sugar. Spread into cooked pie crust.
Place 1 pint of strawberries (stems down) and 1 cup of mixed berries on top of the filling. Cover and chill for at least four hours. Spoon whipped topping into the center of pie when serving.
Although most people associate hot dogs and hamburgers with the 4th of July, make desserts the highlight of your barbecue. Feature any of these patriotic pies for a truly festive holiday
