April Showers Finger Paint Kids Craft

Here's what you will need:

  • Paper
  • Variety of Finger Paints: We used purple. red, blue, and 2 shades of green

 Directions:

  1. Starting with the umbrella, begin with a single hand print pressed into the upper middle of the page. (We used purple)
  2. Then dip both hands into an alternate color (we used red). You will be lining up the heels of the hands to create a curved "U" arc with your hands. Using the heels of the hands as a guide, press into a "V" on either side of the purple hand print.
  3. Dipping both hands back into the original color (purple), create the outer edges of the umbrella (lining up the heels of the hands to finish your arc) with the last set of hand prints.
  4. To create the umbrella handle, dip your child's finger in one of the umbrella colors and sweep into a "J" at the bottom of your umbrella.
  5. Dip your child's four fingers (not the thumb) into a shade of green. Press "grass" across the bottom of your umbrella scene. Do this again in another shade of green.
  6. Finally, add the rain! Dip your child's finger in blue paint and streak raindrops across your page.

And done! You and your child have an April Showers masterpiece to admire on rainy days or any day! I love hand print and finger print art because it's a tangible way to keep track of your child's growth. We love going back and comparing hand sizes from crafts done years ago.

How do you keep the kids from April Showers boredom? What crafts do you enjoy on rainy days?
