Printables: Creating Your Family Tree

family funactivities

Have you ever heard of a family tree? I remember when I was a young girl, I would watch my mother fill out our family tree. It was a large, 11 x 14 colorful tree with places on each branch for family names. My mother added the names of my siblings, grandparents, and great grandparents to this beautiful drawing. There were people on our family tree that I had never heard of before. When my mom was done with the picture, she framed it and hung it on our wall. I remember looking at our family tree often and liked seeing that I was part of something bigger than just my own immediate family.

When I got older I started asking more questions about who my ancestors were, and where they came from. My Mother loves family history and has written several books filled with stories of my extended family. It is so fun to read how some of them lived in a dugout when they moved into the Salt Lake Valley.  The stories are endless of how they sacrificed everything they had to create a better life in the United States. I am thankful to my ancestors for all they have done on my behalf, and I want my kids to get to know them as well. I can't think of a better way to do this then to have them fill in their own family tree.

A family tree is a diagram showing the relationships between people in several generations of a family. In our new Family History eBook we have some fun family tree printables. Print one for your children so they can get excited about learning about their family.
