Craft: The Power of Words
Crafts—Put inspiring words on your walls this fall season to lift your spirits and to help you get in the autumn mood of warmth, love, and family. Choose any word or phrase that reminds you of the season or brings a smile to your face when you see it. I chose the word “Love” because that’s what I feel as the days get colder and everyone spends more time together indoors and for the holidays.
After choosing your word, find pictures that remind you of that word. If your word is Halloween related, find pictures from past Halloweens, or if it is Thanksgiving related, find pictures from past Thanksgivings and include words that express what you are grateful for.
Ideas for words:
Halloween
- Spook
- Scare
- Boo!
Thanksgiving
- Thanks
- Give
Seasonal
- Live
- Laugh
- Love
- Share
- Smile
- Sing
- Family
From there, it’s easy.
I found simple woodcut letters at my craft store. If you’re okay with it not being as sturdy, you can cut your own out of cardboard.
Using a foam brush, cover your letter with mod podge.
Lay out your pictures in your desired array. Wallet sizes will probably work best for most letter sizes. Coat the pictures in Mod Podge carefully preventing any wrinkling or bubbling of the pictures.
After it has completely dried, cut around the edges of your letter to get the excess hang off from pictures.
Repeat with the other letters in your word and you’re done! Hang however you wish. I stapled twine to the backs of my letters so they can hang but there are many other possibilities!
What are some other words you can decorate that remind you of fall?
