Holiday Photos – Pictures of Your Childhood Home and Legacy

For many of us, the holidays mean that we are able to travel to our family's home. This is the perfect opportunity to capture forever, through photography the things that meant something to you as a child.

This year, I am spending Christmas at mom and dad's house near Houston, Texas. They've been in that house 20 years now. You would think I wouldn't notice the little things anymore. But the little things is what makes it mom's house.

It is the picture that hangs above the piano. The same picture hung above the piano when we lived in Plano, Texas. I stared at for years when I practiced my scales. I wished, almost daily, that I could just magically play piano like a genius.

It is the beautiful, handmade wreath on the door, that gets changed with every season.

It is their wedding picture that reminds me of the story of their wedding day, when they gave dad the wrong suit jacket. It is the daisies that she holds that I chose to honor her by carrying me on my wedding day.

All of these little pieces of their home makes up a huge part of my story. Whenever I am there, I try to sneak in some time to take a few pictures.

I see the shells from their childhood and adolescence in Corpus Christ, Texas. I see the Mickey Mouse paperweights that remind me of our first trip to Disney World. I see the guitar that dad always plays.

These are now the sweet pictures I can show my children and explain a little more about who I am and my memories from childhood. I can add it to a journal and tell these sweet stories.

It also makes me take a look around my own home. I wonder what they will treasure and tell their children of one day.

When you are there this holiday, will you take some time to take a few pictures? I know it will be a treasure for always.
