Valentine’s Day Activity: Giving Your Loved One a Healthy Heart Attack {Giveaway!}

craftsholidays

Earlier this month, my husband @TroyPattee, went out of town. Even though Valentine's Day is not until the 14th, my two boys and I decided to celebrate it early as a family by surprising Troy with a heart attack. Don't worry! We're not talking about the life threatening variety. We're talking about a healthy and positive heart attack. Think paper. Think hearts. Think of showering of love in the form of lots and lots of hearts.

For our Valentine's Day activity, we "attacked" the garage and some of our interior doors and walls, by plastering hearts all over them along with a poster, welcoming our husband and father home and telling him we love him. And what a great surprise and expression of love it was!

How to Surprise Your Sweetheart for Valentine's Day

To create the Valentine's Day activity masterpiece, we downloaded these heart printables from Mom It Forward's Love eBook, which includes 20 printables perfect for showing love on or around Valentine's Day. Then, we printed several copies on card stock and my boys and I dedicated an evening to cutting them out and making an "I Love You" poster out of red poster board.

As you can see, the hearts have fun sayings on the front. (You can download this free printable here.)

On the back, they are blank. We chose to write a different thing we love about Troy on each of the hearts, 60 love notes in total. I especially loved this part of the process as it gave me a great opportunity to share my love for my husband with our kids as well as encourage them to identify the things they love about their dad.

Love Notes-Valentine's Day-Love

While we love getting messy while we're doing our Valentine's Day activity, we didn't want our random act of kindness to hurt the paint or damage our garage door. Therefore, we applied blue painter's tape to the hearts before hanging them, which we did an hour before Troy was due home so they would still be in tact when he arrived, which given our recent snow storms and winter weather, was a concern. Additionally, we made sure to have Shout® Trigger on hand to take care of any stains from our washable markers or other colorful art supplies.

The result? One very happy husband and father.
