Yummy DIY Vitamin Water
My girls are competitive Scottish Highland Dancers, a sport that is very strenuous. It is recommended that they drink plenty of vitamin water (Gatorade, Powerade, etc..) as opposed to plain water to keep hydrated while competing or performing. I was very weary of giving these to my girls because of the high sugar content as well as the added dyes. I knew they needed something to stay healthy, so I created my own DIY vitamin water! I am sharing our basic recipe here, but you can add or use your favorite fruits and vegetables!
Vitamin Water
Supplies
Juice container (I use glass)
Bags of frozen fruit (I'm using strawberries and pineapples, but have used blackberries, raspberries, mango, blueberries...)
Container of Coconut Water
Tap or Spring Water
Instructions
The process is really quite simple. You add desired amounts of chosen frozen fruit to fill about 1/4 of the container:
Then you add about half of the container of Coconut Water, in our case 1/2 a quart.
Next, fill the container the rest of the way with tap or spring water (we have well water at our house, which is super yummy on its own!!):
And lastly, muddle the fruit a bit with a spoon. Refrigerate 1/2 hr - 1 hour. The longer it sits, the stronger its taste!
And Voila! It's that easy! I will re-use the same fruit 2X, just re-add coconut and tap water when empty. I then save the fruit to add to homemade popsicles!! This is such a refreshing drink - I go through this container in about a day. It started as a sports drink and has quickly become our family's favorite daily drink!
Enjoy!
What ways do you and your family stay hydrated?
