How to Make Magic Milk Swirls

Supplies:

  • Milk
  • Food Coloring
  • Dish Soup
  • A Bowl/Dish
  • A tooth pick

Milk with drops of food coloring

Directions:

Pour milk to your bowl or container. Add a few drops of food coloring of whatever colors you want throughout your dish. Now comes the toothpick and the dish soup. Dip the toothpick into the dish soup and then ask your child to put the tooth pick into the food coloring in the milk. The reaction from the dish soup on the tooth pick will force the food coloring to radiate away from the tooth pick. The outcome of this is actually really cool and fun to watch!

The more you dip the toothpick into the colors, the more the colors will mix into each other and swirl around. This will create cool patterns and fun colors. Let your children mix the different primary colors and guess what color will come out of the mixture. When your dish starts to look like this is, it's time to start over and do it again!

If you want to, once your children are finished playing around with the colors and swirling them all together, grab some paper, or paper towels and put it on a cookie sheet or something flat. Grab a paint brush and let your children use the paper towels as their canvas!

Enjoy swirling and let us know how it turns out!
